Volleyball Falls in A-10 Semifinals to Dayton

PITTSBURGH - The GW volleyball team, fresh of an historic upset in the quarterfinal round of the Atlantic 10 Championship, saw its season come to an end in the semifinals in a 3-0 loss to Dayton on Friday evening at the A.J. Palumbo Center.
Key Stats
- GW concludes the season with an appearance in the Atlantic 10 Championship semifinals. It was the 19th time in program history GW has advanced to the final four of the conference tournament.
- GW's trio of four-year seniors - Aaliya Davidson, Kristel Moor and Emily Newell - conclude their careers with three postseason appearances in four years, including three semifinal matches and an appearance in the 2014 A-10 Championship match.
- Junior Kelsey Clark led the Colonials on Saturday night with six kills while Moor, junior Alexis Lete and freshman Marianna Warren added five winners each.
- Davidson added seven digs while freshman Sydney Welch finished with eight digs.
- Dayton hit .434 (40k-7e-76a) for the match with 7.5 team blocks.
How It Happened
Set 1: Dayton 25, GW 7
- Eight attack errors plagued the Colonials as Dayton swung .385 (13k-3e-26a) in a first set victory.
Set 2: Dayton 25, GW 15
- The Flyers started the second set on an 8-2 run.
- GW was able to cut the deficit down to four points when it made the score 13-9 on an attack error.
- Dayton responded with an 8-2 run before winning the set by a final count of 25-15.
Set 3: Dayton 25, GW 17
- GW grabbed an early 3-1 lead to open the third set.
- Dayton responded with six straight points to begin a 7-2 run to take an 8-5 lead.
- Clark put down three consecutive kills to knot the score at 8-8.
- Dayton briefly pulled ahead, 10-8, but GW answered to take an 11-10 lead on kills by Iott and Moor.
- The Flyers scored four straight points to regain the lead they would not relinquish en route to the 25-17 win.
