Cummings recently caught up with GWsports.com to discuss a number of topics.
Who was your basketball idol while growing up?
BC: Diana Taurasi without a doubt. I loved watching her play as a young kid. She was highly skilled, but I loved her toughness and confidence the most. Her energy was infectious even through the television screen. She made me really excited about playing the game.
Would you rather hit the game-winning shot or have the game-ending defensive play?
BC: Make a game-ending defensive play. It takes a lot of grit and toughness to get the last stop in the game and that is what I pride myself on.
What is the one thing you will miss most about going to school at GW?
BC: I will miss seeing all of my teammates and friends every day. I will also miss being able to play basketball with my teammates, traveling and getting pumped up on game days.
Where do you go to escape?
BC: I love walking to the monuments.
Do you have any pre-game rituals?
BC: Listening to music
What advice would you give to Brianna Cummings the freshman?
BC: I would say that the four years truly go by fast. With regards to basketball, leave everything out on the court. You never want to be tortured with "what ifs". Basketball is the most fair game on Earth. If you pour all your energy into it, the reward will truly be amazing.
With regards to school, you can save yourself from extreme headache and stress by being organized and not procrastinating. SERIOUSLY. Never miss a chance to get ahead, and never miss a chance to get nine hours of sleep. Netflix/TV will always be there, it can wait.
Also, networking is extremely important. Don't be afraid to put yourself out there and make connections with people. You never know what person you meet will help you in the future or even help mold who you are. Lastly, you will never know everything or be perfect at everything. But work hard, be open to learning, and attack every moment of the day with positivity and gratitude.
What is your favorite class you have taken at GW and why?
BC: Evolutionary Medicine. I'm a Biology major, so It's very interesting learning about the evolutionary history of diseases.
If you didn't pursue basketball in college what other sport would you have attempted to play?
BC: Volleyball
What is the place you would most like to visit that you have never been to before?
BC: Hawaii
You have to sing one song for karaoke - what are you going with?
BC: We Belong Together - Mariah Carey (I would kill this)
