
Women's Tennis Posts Season-Opening Win at Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The George Washington women's tennis squad opened the 2017 season with a 4-1 road win at Charlotte on Friday afternoon at the Charlotte Indoor Tennis Club.
The Colonials (1-0) bounced back from an early deficit to clinch the match in singles play.
The top tandem of sophomore Maria Siopacha and freshman Melis Bayraktaroglu began the match with a dominant, 6-1, doubles win, but Charlotte took the Nos. 2-3 flights to claim the early point and jump ahead, 1-0.
Sophomore Sara Grubac quickly evened the score with her straight set, 6-1, 6-2, victory at the No. 5 singles position. Senior Taylor Nederlander then put the Colonials on top with her 6-3, 6-3 triumph at No. 4.
Junior Kamilla Beisenova increased GW's lead, taking an efficient, 6-2, 6-2, win in sixth-flight action before Siopacha clinched the match at the top spot, posting a 6-4, 6-1 victory to give the Buff and Blue a 4-1 season-opening win.
The Colonials will complete their opening weekend of play at Atlantic 10 foe Davidson on Sundayafternoon. First serve is slated for 12 p.m.
