LEADING OFF: I The No. 18 George Washington gymnastics team, off to a 5-0 start after the first three weeks of the season, travels to Fort Worth, Texas, this weekend to compete at the Metro Plex Challenge at the Forth Worth Convention Center at 7:45 p.m. ET.
LAST TIME OUT: IGW posted a season-high score of 196.00 to run its record to 5-0 after last Sunday's dual-meet win at Towson. The Colonials earned titles in all events plus the all-around to continue its unbeaten run to open the season.
THREE FOR CHELSEA: I Chelsea Raineri earned her third consecutive EAGL Specialist of the Week Award on Wednesday after making a trio of podium appearances for the third straight week at Towson.
The senior co-captain enters this weekend's competition ranked second overall in the EAGL on vault (9.833 avg.), third on uneven bars (9.808 avg.) and tied for fifth on floor exercise (9.825 avg.).
STRONG BEAM: I GW's best event through the first three weeks of the season has been balance beam, where the Colonials rank sixth overall in the NCAA with an average team score of 49.20.
GW's lineup occupies five of the top seven spots in the EAGL rankings, led by junior Sara Mermelstein who posted a season-high 9.875 at Towson on Sunday. Mermelstein ranks second overall in the conference with an average score of 9.85, followed by junior Alex Zois (3rd, 9.842 avg.), junior Liz Pfeiler (4th, 9.825 avg.), senior Alex DeMoura (5th, 9.817 avg.) and junior Cami Drouin-Allaire (7th, 9.792 avg.).
ON THE PODIUM: I The Metro Plex Classic will be contested on podium, an elevated competition floor similar to that seen at the NCAA Gymnastics National Championships. The Colonials' veterans have experience competing in such a fashion after last season's Perfect 10 Challenge in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
EAGL ELITE: In addition to pacing the conference on balance beam, GW also tops the EAGL on vault (17th in NCAA, 48.917 avg.) and floor exercise (T-16th, 48.942 avg.).
