Men's Track Places Fifth at Terrapin Invitational

HYATTSVILLE, Md. - Junior Ryan DePinto set a new indoor program record in the mile and the George Washington men's track team combined to set 16 new personal records en route to a fifth-place finish out of 12 competing teams on Saturday at the Terrapin Invitational at the Prince George's Sports and Learning Complex.
DePinto highlighted a strong afternoon for the Colonials with his performance in the mile, setting a new program record by five seconds with a time of 4:14.81. He paced three Colonials in the top six and six of GW's eight competitors in the event set new personal records.
Junior Carter Day (2nd, 4:19.89) and sophomore Charles Arnold (6th, 4:21.46) joined DePinto in the top-ten with new PRs. Also posting career-best performances in the event were graduate student Anthony Ruiz (11th, 4:33.14), freshman Jack Conlon (14th, 4:36.60) and sophomore Connor James (23rd, 4:34.34). Senior Jordan Pantalone (15th, 4:35.97) and sophomore Trevor Sye (20th, 4:40.98) rounded out GW's strong showing in the event.
A trio of Colonials finished in the top-11 of the 3000-meter run, with junior Noah Duell placing first in his heat and seventh overall with a PR of 9:10.43. Freshmen Jon Dooling (9th, 9:13.09) and Paul Housey (11th, 9:19.86) also performed well in their first collegiate race at the 3000m distance.
Rounding out GW's strong performances in the distance events were sophomore Andrew Weber (7th, 15:55.64 PR) and senior Seamus Roddy (8th, 16:02.72) in the 5000m.
The Colonials' impressive afternoon continued in middle distance events as freshman Jakob Coombes placed fourth overall in the 600m in 1:25.74, ahead of sophomore Sawyer Bilton (6th, 1:26.14 PR) and freshman Evan Garry (9th, 1:28.23).
Freshman Colin Wills (1:57.36 PR) and junior Chris Shaffer (1:57.66 PR) finished five-six in the 800m with Shaffer placing first in his heat.
Ed Delavergne, Frank Delavergne, Bilton and Coombes then combined to set a new program record in the 4x400 relay, placing sixth overall in 3:33.77, beating last weekend's record-setting performance by just over one second.
GW returns to action at next weekend's Wesley Brown Invitational at the United States Naval Academy.
