NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - George Washington women's basketball forward Lexi Martins has been named the Atlantic 10 Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday, after leading the Colonials to two victories with a pair of double-doubles.
Martins continued her dominant play in conference, where she averages team-bests of 13.8 and 10.7 rebounds against league opponents, by posting her fifth and sixth double-doubles of the season, respectively, in GW's wins over George Mason and Davidson last week.
She opened her week with 16 points and 10 rebounds in an overtime win at George Mason on Wednesday. She hit a three pointer in addition to two assists and one block and grabbed her 1,000th career rebound early in the contest.
Martins picked up where she left off in Sunday's game against Davidson, hitting 7-of-11 field goals, including a pair of threes, on the way to a 14-point, 10-rebound double. The game marks her fifth consecutive with at least 10 and 10 and the sixth time in six A-10 games. She added two assists and two blocks as GW won for the fifth time in its last six games.
For the week she shot 52% from the field with averages of 15.0 points, 10.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.5 blocks per game.
The award marks the first for Martins in her debut year in the A-10 as a graduate transfer from Lehigh. She earned three career Player of the Week honors from the Patriot League during her three seasons at Lehigh.
