TIPPING OFF: The George Washington women's basketball team returns to the friendly confines of the Charles E. Smith Center on Sunday, where it boasts a 6-1 record this season and is 47-7 over the past four years, to host Davidson in an Atlantic 10 conference game. Tip-off is at 2:00 p.m. for the nationally-televised broadcast on CBS Sports Network.
LAST TIME OUT: Four players scored in double figures, led by a career-high tying 20 points from senior Hannah Schaible, as GW picked up a 79-71 overtime victory at George Mason on Wednesday afternoon.
Schaible scored 13 of her 20 points in the extra session while graduate student Lexi Martins double-doubled for the fourth straight game with 16 points and 10 rebounds and grabbed her 1,000th career board early in the contest.
Seniors Caira Washington (16 points, nine rebounds) and Shannon Cranshaw (10 points), along with junior Kelli Prange (12 points) also hit double figures as GW outlasted their Revolutionary Rivals with a balanced attack and timely defense. The Colonials limited George Mason to a season-best tying four points in the third quarter while outscoring the Patriots, 19-11, in the overtime period.
WASHINGTON WATCH: Washington is just six rebounds away from becoming the second player in program history with 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds, joining Darlene Saar ('95) in the elite company.
She will also earn the distinction of being the only player in GW's history to total 1,000 points, 1,000 rebounds and over 100 career blocks.
The Brandywine, Maryland, native paces the Colonials in both scoring and rebounding this season, averaging 11.8 points and 8.1 rebounds per game.
MEGA MARTINS: Martins is on a tear over the past four games, averaging 14.5 points and 10.8 rebounds per game.
She also has double-doubled in all five of GW's Atlantic 10 games this season and averages 13.8 points and 10.8 rebounds per game against conference foes, marks that rank 14th and 4th in the league, respecitvley.
DISH IT OUT: Sophomore Mei-Lyn Bautista tied a career-high with nine assists, with just one turnover, on Wednesday at George Mason. The second-year guard is averaging 3.2 assists across 17 games this season. Against A-10 opponents, she leads the conference with a 4.8 assist-to-turnover ratio while ranking sixth with 4.8 helpers per game.
FROM DEEP: Cranshaw hits multiple three-pointers (3-of-6) for the eighth time this season at George Mason on Wednesday and ranks third overall in the A-10 by shooting 40-percent (24-of-59) from downtown.
SCOUTING DAVIDSON: The Wildcats enter Sunday's game in the basement of the Atlantic 10 with a 2-14 overall record and are winless in four conference games. Davidson nearly snapped its five-game losing streak on Thursday night but lost on a buzzer beater at Massachusetts that sent them to their sixth straight defeat.
Three players average double figures, led by Mackenzie Latt (15.7), who is also the team's top rebounder at 8.3 boards per game.
SERIES HISTORY: GW has won the only two meetings between the two schools. Most recently, the Colonials blew out the Wildcats on the road last season, 79-60, behind 15 points from Cranshaw.
