No. 10 Gymnastics to Host Lindsey Ferris Invitational on Saturday

LEADING OFF: The No. 10 George Washington gymnastics team will open its home schedule by hosting the 10th Annual Lindsey Ferris Invitational on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. in the Charles E. Smith Center. The Colonials will face East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) rival North Carolina, along with Cornell and Penn.
GW has won the Lindsey Ferris Invitational each of the past four seasons.
HOT START: The Colonials posted the 10th-best team score in the nation in the first weekend of competitions at last Saturday's Little Boston Invitational in Boston, Massachusetts. GW scored 195.55 in its dual-meet win over Yale and swept the podium in all events and the all-around.
EAGL HONORS: Senior Chelsea Raineri was named the EAGL Specialist of the Week on Wednesday after helping the Colonials to victory by capturing the uneven bars title (9.80) and finishing in second place on both vault (9.85) and floor exercise (9.85).
The honor marks the fourth time Raineri has been named EAGL Specialist of the Week and the seventh overall weekly honor of her career.
ANOTHER AWARD: Senior Alex DeMoura was named the GWsports.com Colonial of the Week on Monday for her efforts in the season-opener. DeMoura won the second all-around title of her career (39.175), and also placed first on the floor exercise (9.875) at the Little Boston Invitational. She also placed second on both balance beam (9.825) an uneven bars (9.775) and tied for fourth on vault (9.70).
TOP-25: GW is ranked in the top 25 for all events after the first weekend of competition. GW is tied for fifth in the NCAA after scoring 49.075 as a team on floor exercise and also ninth overall in the nation on balance beam (49.075). The Colonials also boast national rankings of T-19th on vault (48.775) and T-25th on uneven bars (48.625).
ABOUT LINDSEY FERRIS: Ferris was a four-year performer on the gymnastics team and graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor's degree in communication in 2001 before serving as a Presidential Academic Fellow (PAF) while earning her master's in forensic science in 2003. Following graduation, she achieved great success by becoming a Special Agent for the Air Force Office of Special Investigations before her untimely passing.
