TIPPING OFF: The George Washington women's basketball team looks to return to the win column on Wednesday morning when it visits local rival George Mason at 11:00 a.m. in a Revolutionary Rivalry tilt at EagleBank Arena.
LAST TIME OUT: GW erased a 16-2 deficit to tie the game at halftime and led with five minutes remaining, but ultimately came out on the wrong side of a 50-48 decision at Dayton on Sunday afternoon for its first A-10 loss of the season.
Graduate student Lexi Martins double-doubled for the third straight game with 11 points and 12 rebounds while senior Caira Washington also hit double figures with 10 points along with 9 rebounds.
ONE FOR A GRAND: Martins enters Wednesday's game needing just one rebound to bring her career total to 1,000. She totaled 881 in three seasons at Lehigh and currently ranks second on GW with 118 rebounds through 16 games.
Martins is averaging team-bests of 13.3 points and 11.0 rebounds in GW's four A-10 games.
D-UP: GW has held each of its past three opponents to 50 points or less and currently leads the Atlantic 10 in scoring defense, allowing just 57.5 points per game. The Colonials also rank second in the conference in both field-goal percentage defense (.352) and third in three-point defense (.272).
CAIRA COMES TO PLAY: Washington has shown an ability to rise to the occasion when she lines up against George Mason.
In seven career games against the Patriots, the senior forward is averaging 17.0 points and 8.7 rebounds per game while shooting 40 percent (50-of-76) from the field with four double-doubles. She also averages 2.0 rejections and 1.7 steals against the Patriots.
SCOUTING GEORGE MASON: George Mason is coming off a pair of losses in the A-10 after falling at Saint Louis, 89-50, on January 4, and 53-49 at home against Fordham on Saturday.
Kara Wright is the top scoring threat for the Patriots, averaging 14.8 points per game at nearly 50 percent (.497) shooting from the field. She is also the team's leading rebounder at 6.1 boards per game.
SERIES HISTORY: GW leads the all-time series, 19-8, and has won the last eight meetings in a row, including a 78-48 rout in the quarterfinals of the last season's Atlantic 10 Championship Quarterfinals.
The Colonials are 6-6 in away games in the series and have won road each game by an average margin of 14.3 points.
