WASHINGTON - The George Washington women's soccer squad looks to remain undefeated in 2016 as the Colonials host Delaware on Thursday afternoon at 5:00 p.m. before traveling to Liberty on Sunday.
GW (5-0-0) enters the week after upsetting then-No. 17 Arkansas, 1-0, on Sunday afternoon in the Colonials' first-ever home televised match. Senior MacKenzie Cowley netted her second gamewinner of the week against the Razorbacks after lifting GW to a 1-0 victory over UMBC on Thursday. She was named the Atlantic 10 Offensive Player of the Week while the Colonials notched TopDrawerSoccer.com Team of the Week honors.
The Colonials' Sunday triumph, the program's first victory over a nationally-ranked team since 1996, earned GW 17 votes in the national poll released on Sept. 6.
Thursday's match against the Blue Hens will wrap a three-game homestand for GW.
Cowley has scored in each of GW's matches this season to lead the squad and rank second in the conference with five goals. Her three gamewinners rank her tied for first in the A-10 and third in the nation.
Redshirt junior keeper Miranda Horn has not allowed a goal in 2016, posting three shutouts already on the young season - good for 11th in the nation.
Delaware (1-5-0) visits the District after earning its first win of the season against Loyola (Md.) on Sunday afternoon, 1-0. Dani Kabit leads the Blue Hens with two goals on the year.
Goalkeeper Kaulyn Rekos has already amassed 45 saves on the year, but has allowed 13 goals for a 2.08 goals-against average. Opponents have outshot Delaware, 109-56 in 2016.
The Colonials look to avenge a 3-1 loss to the Blue Hens a year ago, but GW leads the all-time series, 2-1-0.
Liberty (2-3-0) marks the second NCAA Tournament team from a year ago that the Colonials will face this season. The 2015 Big South Champion Flames fell to No. 3 seed North Carolina in the first round of the tournament last fall.
Liberty enters the week after grabbing consecutive wins against James Madison and Appalachian State at home. The Flames will visit UNC-Greensboro on Thursday before hosting GW.
Keeper Holly Van Noord grabbed Big South Defensive Player of the Week honors after posted 18 saves in two victories for the Flames last week. Gabrielle Farrell netted the gamewinner in Sunday's win over James Madison to earn Rookie of the Week accolades.
In 2015, the Colonials defeated Liberty, 3-0, at home. Liberty and GW are knotted at an even 2-2-0 mark in the all-time series.
