WASHINGTON - The George Washington men's soccer squad closes non-conference play on Wednesday afternoon when St. Francis Brooklyn visits the GW Soccer Field on the Mount Vernon Campus for a 12 p.m. match.
The Colonials (4-2-3) return home after a stretch of four consecutive road matches. The Buff and Blue won both of last week's contests, downing Longwood and Robert Morris by identical scores of 2-0. GW has now posted five clean sheets on the year.
Junior Christian Lawal has scored in each of GW's last three games and leads the squad with three goals on the year. The Colonials have received goals from six different players in 2016.
Sophomore keeper Thor Arne Höfs has played every minute for the Colonials in the net and has been a dominant force between the pipes, leading the Atlantic 10 and ranking 17th in the nation with a .614 goals-against average. Höfs also leads the league and ranks seventh in the nation with a 0.870 save percentage.
St. Francis Brooklyn (4-3-2) also enters the week after consecutive victories. The Terriers edged Saint Peters, 2-1, in double overtime before posting a dominating, 3-0, win over Howard.
The Colonials and Terriers last met in 2000, when GW grabbed a 1-0 victory. The all-time series is knotted at 1-1-0.
