GW Women's Tennis Claims Pair of Flight Titles

PHILADELPHIA - Juniors Marie-Louise Decamps and Kamilla Beisenova took home singles flight crowns as the George Washington women's tennis squad completed play at the Saint Joseph's Invitational on Sunday.
The Colonials were busy in Flight 1 action on Sunday, as Decamps, freshman Melis Bayraktaroglu and sophomore Maria Siopacha all competed in the flight's semifinals. Decamps downed Bayraktaroglu in three sets, 1-6, 6-1, 10-4, to earn a spot in the final. Siopacha claimed a dominant 6-0, 6-2 win over SJU's Claire Minnoe to grab the other final spot. In an all-GW face-off, Decamps won the flight title after coming out on top in a three-set battle.
Beisenova began her day with a three-set triumph over Bucknell's Paige Leavy in the Flight 2 semifinal. A straight set, 7-5, 6-3, win over Drexel's Clary Rodriguez Cruz clinched the flight crown for Beisenova. Senior Allison Hansen won the Flight 2 consolation bracket with a walkover win before downing Villanova's Connor Brewer, 6-4, 6-4.
In Flight 1 doubles play, the tandem of Bayraktaroglu and Siopacha fell to Villanova's Kaylan Rotman and Lindsey Evans in the flight final, 8-4.
The Colonials take a weekend hiatus from competition before traveling to Annapolis for the three-day Blue and Gold Invitational hosted by Navy beginning on Friday, Oct. 7.
