GW Women's Tennis Wraps Day 1 of SJU Invite

PHILADELPHIA - The George Washington women's tennis squad posted a strong day of doubles play to open the Saint Joseph's Invitational on Friday afternoon at the SJU Tennis Complex at the Maguire Campus.
In a change of schedule, all seven Colonials competing over the weekend traveled to the SJU Invite, foregoing the UVA Fall Invitational as originally scheduled.
Senior Taylor Nederlander and Allison Hansen, juniors Kamilla Beisenova and Marie-Louise Decamps, sophomores Maria Siopacha and Victoria Kogan and freshman Melis Bayraktaroglu will compete at the SJU Invite.
Friday consisted of doubles play across the tournament's two flights. Singles play will begin on Saturday.
After receiving a first round bye, the pair of Bayraktaroglu and Siopacha defeated SJU's pair of Claire Minnoe and Alex Zachem in a hard-fought 8-6 battle in the Flight 1 quarterfinal round. The duo earned a spot in the flight final after grabbing an 8-3 triumph over Drexel's Lea Winkler and Anisiya Simpson.
Decamps and Kogan paired for a strong day of doubles play, claiming a first round victory over the Loyola (Md.) duo of Ania Krawiec and Sydney Siembida, 8-2. In the quarterfinal round, Decamps and Kogan cruised to an 8-3 win over SJU's Katherine Devlin and Sarah Contrata before being edged in the semifinal, 9-8 (5) by Drexel's Ghita Benhadi and Kendra Bunch.
Hansen and Nederlander teamed up to grab GW's final victory of the day, defeating SJU's Maureen Devlin and Isis Gill-Reid in consolation doubles play, 8-2.
