Dalacy Anderson `16 Named to Victory Scholar Program

NEW YORK, N.Y. -- George Washington women's basketball alumna Dalacy Anderson '16 was announced as a Victory Scholar by the Sport Changes Life Foundation. The ceremony featured PGA superstar Rory McIlroy on Monday night at NIKE Town in Manhattan.
Beginning in September, Anderson will embark on a life-changing year in Ireland. She will complete a Master's program at the Waterford Institute of Technology while undertaking basketball-related community service activities.
Sport Changes Life (SCL) is a youth mentorship organization that inspires youth to achieve the highest standards in their personal, sporting and academic lives. One of the tools used to promote SCL's mission is this unique international scholarship program - the Victory Scholars Program.
As an ambassador for SCL and a Victory Scholar, Anderson will act as a sports mentor to help build self-confidence, inspire, improve the life skills and empower community youth to use sport as the catalyst to drive change in their lives.
A 2016 George Washington graduate with a degree in Marketing, Anderson was a four-year letterwinner for the Colonials and helped the program to consecutive Atlantic 10 Championships and NCAA Tournament appearances. She appeared in 107 games in her career and was named to the Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll as a senior. The Bolingbrook, Illinois, native was also a two-time member of the GW Athletics Academic Dean's List.
This year's group of participants, which also includes Atlantic 10 alums Ebony Wells (La Salle) and Sarah Fairbanks (Saint Joseph's), will be challenged to raise the aspirations of young people through sport in local communities in Northern Ireland and Ireland.
There have been 53 Victory Scholars in total since the Sports Changes Life Victory Scholar program was piloted with its founding partner, Ulster University, in 2007. The Rory Foundation have helped bring in a further 23 Victory Scholars the largest class to date.
Holywood Northern Ireland native Rory McIlroy, a four-time major champion on the PGA Tour, was announced as an ambassador at the event. His own Rory McIlroy Foundation recently made a substantial $150,000 donation towards sponsoring Victory Scholars. The Rory Foundation was established in 2013 to offer support to charities with a special meaning and purpose for Rory.
