WASHINGTON - George Washington gymnastics rising seniors Chelsea Raineri and Alex DeMoura have been elected by their teammates to serve as team captains for the 2017 season, head coach Margie Foster-Cunningham has announced.
The duo will serve as senior leaders as the Colonials aim to return to NCAA Regionals for the third straight season after postseason trips to Auburn (2015) and Athens, Georgia (2016). The last time that GW made three consecutive appearances at NCAA Regionals was 2000-02.
Raineri enters her senior campaign as a three-time All-East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) First Team selection on vault. She also garnered Second Team honors on uneven bars and floor exercise during her junior season and was the 2014 EAGL Rookie of the Year.
DeMoura returns for her senior season following a comeback junior year that saw her earn a trio of First Team selections for the all-around, balance beam and floor exercise, in addition to Second Team honors on vault and uneven bars. The Garden City, New York, native was sidelined for the second half of her sophomore season before her standout 2016 season.
