
GW Women's Tennis Downed by VCU

RICHMOND, Va. - Three-time defending Atlantic 10 champion VCU proved too much for the George Washington women's tennis team on Sunday afternoon, as the Rams triumphed, 6-1, at the Thalhimer Tennis Center.
VCU (6-9) jumped out early after grabbing 6-0 doubles wins at the top two slots to take a 1-0 lead.
In singles play, the Rams took straight-set wins at the Nos. 4, 2 and 3 spots to clinch the match.
Sophomore Teodora Radosavljevic battled in top-flight action, going the distance but ultimately falling, 6-3, 3-6, 10-5. VCU went on to take a straight-set victory at the No. 5 spot.
Senior Egle Jakuciunaite closed the match with a triumph at the No. 6 position, winning a pair of tie breakers to claim a 7-6 (7-3), 7-6 (7-3) win to put the final score at 6-1.
The Colonials (5-10) return home on Saturday to host Atlantic 10 foe Duquesne at the GW Tennis Center on the Mount Vernon Campus at 2:30 p.m.
