FAIRFAX, Va. - The George Washington women's tennis team dropped an Atlantic 10 matchup to Duquesne, 4-2, at the Four Seasons Tennis Club in Fairfax, Virginia, on Saturday evening.
After being moved indoors due to inclement weather, the match began with singles and was played to clinch.
Duquesne (14-3, 7-1 A-10) got out to an early lead with straight-set wins at the top two spots. Junior Taylor Nederlander then cut the Dukes' lead in half with a victory in third-flight action, 6-3, 6-4.
Duquesne came within one of clinching the match with another straight-set effort, this time at the bottom of the ladder. Sophomore Marie-Louise Decamps then went the distance to keep the Colonials alive, downing her conference foe, 6-2, 4-6, 6-2, in the No. 5 slot.
The Dukes clinched the victory with a three-set, come-from-behind win in the No. 4 position to put the final score at 4-2, preventing the match from advancing to doubles play.
The Colonials (5-11, 1-4 A-10) wrap their home season on Sunday with a senior day match against Georgetown slated for 3:30 p.m. at the GW Tennis Center on the Mount Vernon Campus.
