WASHINGTON -- The George Washington lacrosse team twice rallied from three-goal deficits but eventually fell to Atlantic 10 rival La Salle, 13-11, on Friday afternoon at the GW Lacrosse Field on the Mount Vernon Campus.
Senior Olivia Boudreau notched her first hat trick of the season and added an assist plus three ground balls and three caused turnovers. Sophomore Jocelyn Donohue and junior Michaela Lynch tallied three points apiece, each registering two goals and an assist. Donohue also won a career-high five draw controls while Lynch had three.
La Salle jumped out to a 4-1 lead, but the Colonials scored three in a row over a span of 1:09 to tie the game at the 18:20 mark. The Explorers responded with another 4-1 run for an 8-5 advantage with 5:29 left before Donohue's second goal of the game with seven seconds to go made it 8-6 at the break.
GW scored the first four goals of the second half, as Boudreau tied the game then gave the Colonials their first lead with back-to-back markers and Lynch followed 16 seconds later to make it a two-goal game, 10-8, with 23:43 remaining. La Salle, however, tallied five of the final six goals of the contest for the 13-11 win.
Sophomore goalkeeper Adele Wise recorded seven saves, while Sarah Gallagher stopped 11 shots for the Explorers, as the Colonials held a 30-22 advantage in shots.
Brittany Edwards paced La Salle with five points on two goals and three assists plus three draw controls.
The Colonials return to action on Sunday when they visit A-10 rival Duquesne at 1 p.m.
