WASHINGTON - Junior Andrea Bolognesi has been named a College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) First Team All-American, the organization announced.
Bolognesi posted a stellar first season as a Colonial after transferring to GW from the University of Monaco. At the 2016 Atlantic 10 Championships, the junior was named Performer of the Year after earning gold medals in the 100-yard breaststroke, 100-yard butterfly and 200-yard IM while snapping GW and conference records, as well as meeting NCAA 'B' cut standards, in each of those events. Bolognesi also had a hand in setting four program records in relay events.
"Congratulations to Andrea on being named a First Team CSCAA All-American," said first-year head coach James Winchester. "Andrea's success represents the pinnacle of what we want to build here at GW."
Bolognesi was named to the Atlantic 10 All-Conference First Team for his gold-medal performances at the Championships.
Competing in the 100-yard breaststroke at the NCAA Championships, Bolognesi earned NCAA All-America First Team honors after placing eighth overall. The Cuveglio, Italy, native broke his own GW record in the preliminary heat, finishing fourth in the field with a time of 52.06. Bolognesi is GW men's swimming and diving's first-ever All-American.
