WASHINGTON - The George Washington softball squad visits cross-town rival Georgetown on Wednesday for a single game to mark the season's non-conference finale.
The Colonials (20-20, 8-6 A-10) return to action after winning two of three games at St. Bonaventure last weekend.
Junior Megan Linn leads the Colonials in most offensive categories with a .386 average, .488 on-base percentage, .614 slugging percentage and 33 runs scored. Linn's 21 RBIs rank second on the squad behind classmate Paige Kovalsky's 25. Kovalsky leads the Atlantic 10 with 17 doubles this season and ranks fourth in the nation with 0.43 doubles per contest.
Linn is on the brink of GW history, as the junior is just three steals away from snapping GW's all-time career mark of 72 set by Amanda Zakeri ('13).
In the circle, sophomore Sarah Costlow has been a consistent force for the Colonials, leading the staff with a 12-8 record and 2.40 ERA through 137.2 innings of work. Costlow has posted 13 complete game efforts this spring and has held opposing batters to a .266 average.
Georgetown (8-29) has fallen in nine of its last 11 contests, most recently dropping two of three to Seton Hall over the weekend.
Four Hoyas are batting over .300 this season, led by Samantha Giovanniello's .342 mark. Giovanniello's 35 RBIs and 13 doubles are also team-highs. Theresa Kane (.308) is a threat on the bases, posting a team-best 16 swipes in 20 chances as Georgetown has just 25 stolen bases as a team.
Giavanniello has served as the Hoyas' primary hurler, earning a team-high six victories while starting 25 games and going the distance in 15. Her 5.91 ERA marks a staff-best and opposing batters have hit a damaging .353 against Georgetown this season.
A year ago the Colonials defeated the Hoyas, 4-2, behind a complete game effort by Costlow. Sophomore Alana Anderson tallied a pair of RBIs while Linn posted a 2-for-2 effort at the plate.
First pitch is slated for 6 p.m. at Georgetown's Guy Mason Field.
