Lowe Leads GW Golf at El Macero Classic

EL MACERO, Calif. -- Freshman Logan Lowe led the George Washington golf team at the El Macero Classic by turning in his best round on Sunday, an even-par 72, to finish in a tie for 29th place.
Lowe, who won back-to-back Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week awards following GW's last two competitions, improved his score in each of the three rounds of competition at El Macero Country Club. The native of Grass Valley, California, shot a 79 in the first round and 75 in the second round, finishing with a 10-over-par 226 in the 54-hole competition.
As a team, GW also had its best round on Sunday. Michael Heda and Christian Cichan each shot 74, and Lucas Farmer shot 76 for a round of 296 for the Colonials, a 16-shot improvement over Saturday (312).
Farmer followed Lowe by finishing T-53rd with a 231 (77-78-76), and Heda also saw his score improve with each round as the junior finished T-63rd with a 233 (81-78-74). Cichan was T-67th (79-81-74=234) and Vince Palazzolo was 87th (84-83-77=244).
GW finished 13th in the tournament with a 924 (316-312-296) while Texas Tech captured the title with an 876 (291-295-290). Kevin Murphy of Oregon State and Ryan Books of TCU tied for the individual title at even-par.
The Colonials now turn their attention towards the Atlantic 10 Championship, which will be held April 29-May 1 at Grand Cyprus Resort in Orlando, Florida.
