KINGSTON, R.I. - The George Washington softball team dropped a Saturday afternoon pitcher's duel, 1-0, to open a three-game Atlantic 10 set at Rhode Island.
Rhode Island (12-20, 3-7 A-10) posted the lone run of the game in the second inning, after a pair of walks and a single led to one run for the Rams.
Neither team advanced a runner beyond second base through the rest of the contest, as junior Megan Linn and sophomore Alana Anderson produced GW's two hits in the game.
Sophomore Sarah Costlow went the distance for GW in the circle, tossing six full innings, allowing just two hits.
Due to a weekend shift in schedule, the Colonials (18-20, 6-6 A-10) will conclude the series with a doubleheader on Sunday beginning at 11 a.m. at the URI Softball Complex.
