FAIRFAX, Va. - The George Washington women's tennis team defeated Atlantic 10 rival George Mason in dominating fashion, blanking the Patriots, 7-0, on Friday afternoon.
The Colonials (6-12, 2-5 A-10) began the match with a pair of victories on the doubles court as the top duo of juniors Allison Hansen and Taylor Nederlander took a 6-1 victory. Sophomore Marie-Louise Decamps and freshman Sara Grubac helped GW claim the early point with a 6-4 win at the No. 2 slot.
The Buff and Blue swept the singles portion as Hansen continued her dominance with a 6-0, 6-1 win at the No. 5 spot, and Decamps took a quick, 6-2, 6-2, triumph in fourth-flight play for her third consecutive solo win. Sophomore Teodora Radosavljevic and senior Egle Jakuciunaite posted matching, 6-3, 6-4, wins at the Nos. 1 and 6 spots, respectively.
Grubac rounded out the straight-set victories with her 6-0, 7-6 (7-3) win at the No. 2 position. Nederlander tallied a 7-5, 4-6, 11-9 triumph to put the final score at 7-0 for the Colonials.
With the win, GW earns a point in the year-long Revolutionary Rivalry, giving the Buff and blue a 12.5-3.5 advantage.
The Colonials wrap the regular season on Saturday with an Atlantic Region match at Maryland beginning at 12 p.m.
