No. 21 GW Gymnastics Wins Maryland 5 Meet

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The No. 21 George Washington gymnastics team won three event titles to top the field and win the Maryland 5 Meet on Sunday afternoon at the XFINITY Center
GW (22-4) scored 195.725 to place first among five teams. Maryland finished second with 194.70, followed by Texas Woman's (193.575), Pittsburgh (193.475) and Yale (192.275).
The Colonials posted team scores of 48.75 on vault, 48.725 on uneven bars, 49.075 on balance beam and 49.175 on floor exercise, anchored by outright event titles from sophomores Alex Zois (balance beam) and Jillian Winstanley (uneven bars). Junior Chelsea Raineri also tied for the vault title with a 9.85.
Winstanley scored 9.90 to clinch the top balance beam routine. She also finished second in the all-around, adding scores of 9.80 on vault (t-4th), 9.75 on uneven bars (6th) and 9.825 on floor exercise (t-7th).
Zois won the uneven bars title by scoring 9.85. She added a strong balance beam routine, tying for fifth with a 9.80, while Raineri added marks of 9.70 on bars (t-8th) and 9.80 on floor (t-11th).
Sophomore Cami Drouin-Allaire finished third in the all-around with a score of 39.125. She tied for fourth on vault with a 9.80 and added scores of 9.70 on uneven bars (t-8th), 9.825 on balance beam (4th) and 9.80 on floor (t-11th).
GW placed four gymnasts in the top five on the balance beam - Winstanley, Zois, Drouin-Allaire and sophomore Liz Pfeiler (3rd, 9.85).
The duo of junior Alex DeMoura and sophomore Sara Mermelstein also tied for second on the floor exercise with identical scores of 9.875. The score tied a career high for Mermelstein.
GW will conclude the regular season on Sunday when it hosts Yale and Kent State for its annual Senior Meet at 1 p.m. at the Charles E. Smith Center.
