GW Gymnastics Finishes Third at EAGL Championship

PITTSBURGH - Sophomore Jillian Winstanley won the vault title and sophomore Alex Zois won a share of the uneven bars crown to help the George Washington gymnastics team to a third-place finish at the East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) Championship on Saturday afternoon at Fitzgerald Field House.
The Colonials posted a total team score of 195.350, with scores of 49.125 on vault, 48.40 on uneven bars, 48.825 on balance beam and 49.00 on floor exercise.
Pittsburgh won the conference title in its home arena with a score of 195.675 while New Hampshire finished in second place with 195.525. GW finished ahead of North Carolina (194.975), N.C. State (194.50) and Towson (193.875).
Winstanley scored 9.90 to claim the second outright individual conference championship of her career after she won the uneven bars title as a freshman in 2015.
The Arlington, Massachusetts, native finished in third place in the all-around with 39.35, the 20th time in her career she has scored 39.00 or better. In addition to her vault title, she scored 9.775 on uneven bars (14th), 9.875 on balance beam (t-3rd) and 9.80 on floor exercise (12th). With her consecutive event titles across the last two seasons, she is the first gymnast in program history to claim multiple outright individual EAGL event championships.
Zois tied for the uneven bars crown with a 9.85 for GW's second event title of the afternoon. She also competed on balance beam, where she scored 9.70.
Sophomore Cami Drouin-Allaire, who was named the EAGL Gymnast of the Year on Friday, placed second overall on vault with a 9.875. She added scores of 9.825 on balance beam (t-8th), 9.85 on floor exercise (t-7th) and 9.00 on uneven bars.
Sophomore Sara Mermelstein tied with Winstanley for third place on balance beam with 9.875. She also competed on floor exercise, scoring 9.775 (t-15th), and vault (9.725).
Junior Alex DeMoura placed fifth in the all-around with 38.975. She tied for third place on uneven bars with a 9.825 and added scores of 9.80 on vault (t-10th), 9.825 on floor exercise (t-9th) and 9.525 on balance beam.
GW is locked into NCAA Regionals and will learn of its destination during the NCAA Gymnastics Selection Show on Monday afternoon at 4 p.m. Possible locations include Athens, Georgia; Tuscaloosa, Alabama; Ames, Iowa; Ann Arbor, Michigan; Minneapolis, Minnesota; or Salt Lake City, Utah.
