SOMERS, Wis. - George Washington junior Andrea Bolognesi has been named TeamUnify/CollegeSwimming Atlantic 10 Swimmer-of-the-Week, CollegeSwimming.com announced on Tuesday.
Bolognesi earns the award after winning all three of his individual races at the A-10 Championships with conference and GW record times en route to the A-10 Most Outstanding Swimmer nod. The Cuveglio, Italy, native helped set four additional program records in relay events.
Bolognesi earned gold in the 200-yard individual medley (1:46.54), 100-yard butterfly (47.18) and 100-yard breaststroke (52.44) with NCAA 'B' cut times, putting him in the running for an invitation to the NCAA Championships. Bolognesi served as the first men's swimmer to set three A-10 records at a single Championships event since recent inductee to the GW Athletic Hall of Fame David Zenk ('09) accomplished the feat in 2009.
Bolognesi also served as a key member of GW's record-setting 200-yard medley relay team with a time of 1:29.81 to place third on the first of four days of competition. The junior went on to help GW snap a 17-year-old program record in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:21.31) and set the top GW time in the 400-yard medley relay (3:16.36) to tie for second place before closing the meet with a new school record of 3:00.60 in the 400-yard freestyle relay.
