BALTIMORE - The George Washington women's tennis team narrowly fell at Towson on Friday evening, 4-3, at the Tigers' Bare Hills Racquet and Fitness Club.
Towson (4-2) grabbed the early doubles point to begin the match with a 1-0 lead, taking victories at the Nos. 1 and 3 positions. Freshman Sara Grubac and sophomore Marie-Louise Decamps took a second-flight triumph, 6-4.
In singles play, the Colonials evened the score as the nation's No. 111-ranked Teodora Radosavljevic continued her winning ways at the top singles slot to remain perfect this spring with her third solo triumph, 7-5, 6-0.
The Tigers regained the lead with a win at the No. 2 slot after a three-set battle, then held a 3-1 advantage after taking the fifth-flight match in straight sets.
With Towson just one point away from clinching the match, Grubac snagged a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 3, before Decamps knotted the match at 3-3 with her victory, 6-4, 6-4, at the No. 4 position.
Freshman Victoria Kogan battled hard in the sixth slot, coming back from one set down to push Towson's Lucy Gloninger to a third set, but the Tigers ultimately claimed the victory (6-2, 4-6, 6-2) and the match to give the Colonials (2-1) their first loss of the spring.
GW plays host for the first time in 2016 on Sunday, as Norfolk State visits the Southeast Tennis Center for a 1 p.m. match.
