LEADING OFF: The No. 17 George Washington gymnastics team carries its perfect 9-0 record into Friday's prestigious Perfect 10 Challenge. The Colonials will be a part of a loaded field that includes top-ranked Oklahoma, No. 12 Denver and No. 30 Utah State at the Cox Arena and Convention Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
ABOUT THE PERFECT 10 CHALLENGE: One of the marquee events of the Bart & Nadia Sports Experience, the Perfect 10 Challenge and surrounding events and activities are centered around the Nadia Comaneci International Invitational.
Bart Connor and Nadia Comaneci are both Olympic gymnastics gold medalists who have partnered to encourage families to take ownership of their health through activities that embrace Olympic, Paralympic and Special Olympics ideals with an emphasis on sports, nutrition and wellness.
TUNE IN: The meet will air live on Fox Sports Southwest and Fox Sports College Sports Central in addition to streaming through the FOX Sports GO app.
LAST TIME OUT: The Colonials improved to 9-0 overall with a tri-meet victory over Kent State and Northern Illinois. GW posted a season-high vault score of 49.15 in addition to marks of 49.025 on uneven bars, 49.050 on balance beam and 48.85 on floor exercise for a team total of 196.075.
STREAKING: GW's 9-0 start marks the second straight season they have started with nine consecutive victories. The Colonials defeated a program-record 11 consecutive opponents to open the 2015 season, en route to their first-ever East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) Championship.
NATIONAL RANKINGS: In addition to being ranked 17th nationally in terms of average overall team score, the Colonials also hold national top-20 marks on balance beam (13th, 48.931) and uneven bars (17th, 48.988). GW is also ranked 21st on floor exercise (48.963) and 26th on vault (48.775).
DETERMINED DeMOURA: Junior Alex DeMoura, who returned from an injury that sidelined her for the second half of 2015 at the Little Boston Invitational, won the first all-around title of her career with a personal-best score of 39.30 at last weekend's Kent State tri-meet. She also posted a career-high mark of 9.90 on balance beam in addition to 9.80 on vault, bars and floor.
DeMoura enters Friday's meet ranked fifth in the all-around with an average score of 38.988.
FLY LIKE AN EAGL: In addition to DeMoura, a number of GW gymnasts hold top-five event rankings in the EAGL.
2015 National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches vault All-American sophomore Cami Drouin-Allaire leads the conference on the apparatus with an average routine of 9.862. She also paces the conference in the all-around (39.094) while ranking third on uneven bars (9.85).
Sophomore Jillian Winstanley is the top-ranked performer on uneven bars with an average score of 9.838 and she ranks second on the vault with an average of 9.819. Her 9.925 on vault at the Little Boston Invitational stands as the top vault performance in the conference this season. Winstanley is also ranked third in the EAGL in the all-around (39.025), while her 39.35 at the Little Boston Invitational is the top score in the conference in 2016.
Junior Chelsea Raineri owns a pair of top-five rankings on both uneven bars (4th, 9.80) and floor exercise (5th, 9.813).
