TIPPING OFF: The George Washington women's basketball team will look to return to its winning ways when it travels to Brookings, South Dakota, for a Sunday matinee at South Dakota State. Tipoff at Frost Arena is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. ET.
LAST TIME OUT: GW saw its four-game win streak end in a tough 66-61 overtime loss at American on Wednesday night. Three players scored in double figures, led by senior Hannah Schaible's 19-point, five-rebound effort, but American erased a late four-point deficit in the fourth quarter to force overtime before prevailing in the extra period.
HANNAH'S HAND STILL HOT Schaible has scored in double figures in three straight games and four of her last five outings. In the past three games she is averaging 17 points on 51 percent shooting from the field.
For the season she ranks second on the team at 11.9 points per contest and is just 32 points away from becoming the 32nd member of GW's 1,000-point club.
EFFICIENT CAIRA: Senior Caira Washington continues to lead the Atlantic 10 in field-goal percentage. She is currently connecting on 70 percent (55-of-79) of her shots from the field, a number which ranks second overall in NCAA Division I as of Thursday afternoon.
Washington also leads GW and ranks 15th in the Atlantic 10 at 12.5 points per game.
MILESTONE WATCH: Washington currently sits at 934 career rebounds (fourth all-time) and is striving to become just the second player in program history with 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds. She also ranks 16th all-time with 1,344 points and seventh with 123 career blocks.
In addition to closing in 1,000 points, Schaible currently sits at 594 career rebounds (17th all-time).
Graduate student Lexi Martins is also approaching 1,000 career rebounds. She totaled 881 through three years at Lehigh and has pulled down 68 rebounds through 10 games this season to sit at 949 for her career.
NOTABLE: Washington (5th, 7.8) and Martins (11th, 6.8) both rank among the top rebounders in the conference ... Schaible and sophomore Mei-Lyn Bautista are both averaging at least three assists per game ... senior Shannon Cranshaw connected on a trio of three-pointers on Wednesday night and ranks fourth in the A-10, shooting .412 (14-of-34) from beyond the arc ... junior Brianna Cummings has hit double figures in five consecutive games, including a season-high 16 points on November 26 vs. FGCU.
SCOUTING SOUTH DAKOTA STATE: South Dakota State is 7-2 on the year. The Jackrabbits fell to Green Bay, 67-43, on Friday night in a battle of the top two teams in the CollegeInsider Top 25 Mid-Major Poll.
The Jackrabbits score 71.7 points per game and limit the opposition to just 57.8 points on 36 percent shooting.
All five of SDSU's starters average double figures, led by Macy Miller's 14.9 points per game.
The Jackrabbits have made 10 postseason appearances, including seven NCAA Tournaments, since turning Division I in 2004-05.
