WASHINGTON - The George Washington softball program will host two days of clinics on Jan. 21 and Feb. 4 at the Mount Vernon Campus, head coach James DeFeo announced.
DeFeo, assistant coach Hallie Blackney and current GW softball student-athletes will give elite instruction on each of the two camp days.
Each camp day will feature four session blocks, each focusing on a different facet of the game for campers ages 12-18. Sessions will include pitching, catching, hitting, defense and game simulation.
Both days will begin with a two-hour pitching or catching clinic. Pitchers will learn proper mechanics, pitch movement and increasing velocity as well as the mental aspects of pitching. Pitching participants must bring their own catcher, who will be able to attend the session free of charge. Catchers will focus on the proper way to receive, frame and block a pitch, while also teaching throwing mechanics, footwork and pitch calling.
A two-hour hitting and slapping session will work fundamental mechanics while increasing power, bat speed, proper balance and footwork, and the mental side of hitting.
A 90-minute defensive session welcomes infielders and outfielders for positional breakdowns that will teach proper mechanics and footwork, angles, glove work and throwing and will include situational instruction.
Each day will close with a two-hour game simulation showcase where campers will be put into teams for a full-speed game.
The cost for a single session is $75 with discounts for multiple sessions purchased. Sessions will be held at the newly renovated GW Softball Field and Lloyd Gymnasium.
