WASHINGTON -- The George Washington lacrosse team will host 10 games at the GW Lacrosse Field on the Mount Vernon Campus as part of its 17-match 2017 regular-season schedule, third-year head coach Tracy Coyne announced on Friday.
"We are eagerly anticipating the 2017 season which has a fantastic home slate," said Coyne. "Fall ball ended on a very positive note so we are heading into the spring season with confidence. The A-10 is filled with tough competition so we know every game will be a battle and we are looking forward to competing for a berth in the conference tournament. It should be fun out at the Vern this year."
GW opens its 2017 campaign with two home games, starting for the second consecutive season against Monmouth on Saturday, Feb. 11. The Colonials will then face Georgetown at home on Feb. 15 before hitting the road for its first game against Longwood since 2005 on Feb. 18, and taking on regional foes UMBC (Feb. 25) and Navy (March 1). GW will face the Retrievers for the second time, while the Colonials will meet the Patriot League runner-up Mids for the sixth year in a row.
The Colonials will then host Robert Morris on Saturday, March 11 at 1 p.m., and Delaware on March 18. GW will play its first-ever game against Robert Morris and will battle the Blue Hens for the fourth straight season.
GW begins Atlantic 10 Conference play at home against St. Bonaventure on Friday, March 31. The Colonials will also host A-10 runner-up Richmond (April 7), second-year program VCU (April 15), and Duquesne (April 23) and will travel to Davidson (April 2), La Salle (April 9), revolutionary rival George Mason (April 13), eight-time defending A-10 champion Massachusetts (April 21), and Saint Joseph's (April 29).
The 2017 Atlantic 10 Championship will take place at Saint Joseph's Sweeney Field from May 4-7, with the top six teams in the regular-season qualifying for the three-day conference tournament.
