WASHINGTON - The George Washington gymnastics team has earned the No. 25 position in the National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches Preseason Coaches Poll, the organization has announced
GW totaled 837 points to earn its highest preseason national ranking in program history. The Colonials are also the highest-ranked team from the East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL).
The Colonials return 12 letterwinners in 2016 while welcoming five newcomers to a team that aims to continue the upward trajectory that the program has embarked on over the past five seasons. The Buff and Blue peaked at No. 11 in the national rankings last season
GW is coming off its 12th NCAA Regionals appearance in program history last year and set a new postseason record (195.55) at the NCAA Athens Regional at the University of Georgia.
Among its returning gymnasts are 2016 EAGL Gymnast of the Year Cami Drouin-Allaire, 2016 EAGL Vault Champion and three-time First Team All-Conference pick Jillian Winstanley, 2016 EAGL Uneven Bars Co-Champion Alex Zois, five-time First Team All-Conference pick Chelsea Raineri and three-time First Team All-Conference selection Alex DeMoura.
GW opens its 2017 campaign on January 7 at the Little Boston Invitational against Yale.
