WASHINGTON - The George Washington men's soccer squad wraps regular-season play on Saturday with a 2 p.m. match against Saint Louis at the GW Soccer Field on the Mount Vernon Campus for the Colonials' Senior Day.
The Colonials (7-5-5, 2-3-2 A-10) are fighting for a spot at the Atlantic 10 Championship and must secure a win for a chance in the postseason. GW currently sits in 10th place in the league standings. Saint Louis (7-6-3, 6-1-0 A-10) suffered its first A-10 loss of the season on Sunday as Fordham took a 2-1 victory in the 110th minute. With Fordham's loss on Wednesday, the Billikens secured the regular-season title.
GW looks to snap a two-match skid, narrowly falling to Massachusetts and St. Bonaventure, 1-0, on the road.
Sophomore Thor Arne Höfs is among the conference's top keepers, leading the A-10 with an .857 save percentage and ranking second with a 0.64 goals-against average. Höfs' eight clean sheets is good for second in the conference and matches a program-high for single-season shutouts.
Senior Garrett Heine leads the Colonials with 17 points (6g, 5a) on the year and ranks second in the league. GW has outscored opponents 19-12 on the year.
The Billikens have yielded 21 goals on the season but only five have come in league play. Ben Yeagar has been SLU's primary keeper in A-10 play, notching a 1.19 GAA on the year with three clean sheets.
Last season the Colonials took a 1-0, double-overtime victory over Saint Louis on a successful Heine penalty kick.
Prior to Saturday's match, Heine, Tobi Adewole, Miles McClearn, Alex Portela, Sam Summerlin, Spiros Tsakos and Angel Valencia will be honored in a Senior Day ceremony.
