GW Women's Tennis' Siopacha Claims Flight Crown on Sunday

BLACKSBURG, Va. - The George Washington women's tennis team wrapped fall play with a strong final day at the Hokie Fall Invite Hosted by Virginia Tech. Sophomore Maria Siopacha claimed her singles flight title while the pair of junior Marie-Louise Decamps and sophomore Victoria Kogan won their consolation doubles flight.
Siopacha completed her undefeated weekend of singles play on Sunday with a straight-set defeat of Virginia Tech's Sansitha Nandakumar, 6-4, 6-1. Siopacha did not drop a single set in the tournament en route to the Orange Flight crown.
In Orange Flight consolation play, freshman Melis Bayraktaroglu took a victory over Alex Theidossiou of UNC-Wilmington to close her weekend of solo competition.
Sophomore Sara Grubac also grabbed a consolation singles win, downing UNCW's Laura Gomez in the Grey Flight.
In doubles action, the pair of Decamps and Kogan claimed the Hokies Flight consolation title with a hard-fought 8-7 (8-6) defeat of Radford's Meili Martin and Camilla Littlewood.
Bayraktaroglu and senior Taylor Nederlander closed the weekend with an 8-3 rout of Marshall's Marija Bogicevic and Nikola Novackova in Tech Flight consolation doubles.
The Colonials will begin their Atlantic 10 Championship season in the spring semester.
