GW Women's Tennis Completes Day 1 at Hokie Invite

BLACKSBURG, Va. - GW women's tennis sophomore Maria Siopacha and junior Kamilla Beisenova advanced to their singles flight semifinals on the first day of competition at the Hokie Invite hosted by Virginia Tech.
In singles action, Siopacha grabbed a pair of victories to advance to the semifinal of the Orange Flight. First, Siopacha handily downed James Madison's Jona Roka, 6-1, 6-0, before swiftly defeating VCU's Janina Braun, 6-2, 6-0 in the quarterfinals.
Beisenova also won both of her solo matches on Friday, triumphing over Virginia Tech's Sloan Barton, 6-2, 6-4, in the Round of 16. Beisenova then came from behind to defeat Claire Nguyen of Radford, 5-6, 6-1, 6-2, and advance to the Black Flight semifinal round.
Senior Taylor Nederlander and sophomore Sara Grubac each won their Round of 16 singles matches but fell in the quarterfinal round of the Grey Flight.
In first round doubles action, the pair of Siopacha and Hansen downed Meili Martin and Camilla Littlewood of Radford, 8-5, to advance to the Hokies Flight quarterfinal on Saturday.
Both singles and doubles consolation play will continue on Saturday. Flight champions will be crowned on Sunday.
