
GW Women's Tennis Victorious in Spring Opener

WASHINGTON - The George Washington women's tennis team opened 2016 with a win on Friday afternoon, as the Colonials visited regional foe Howard in the first match of the spring season and came away with a 7-0 victory.
GW (1-0) swept the doubles matches to give the Colonials an early 1-0 advantage. The No. 2 duo of freshman Sara Grubac and sophomore Marie-Louise Decamps took a 6-0 win before the top pair of juniors Taylor Nederlander and Allison Hansen grabbed a 6-4 victory to clinch the doubles point. Sophomore Teodora Radosavljevic and rookie Victoria Kogan came out on top, 7-5, at No. 3 to close doubles play.
In singles action, Decamps and Grubac increased GW's lead with matching 6-0, 6-0 wins at the Nos. 4 and 3 positions, respectively. Kogan then clinched the match for the Colonials with a 6-2, 6-4 triumph at the No. 6 slot, followed closely by Radosavljevic's win at No. 1 (6-3, 6-3).
Nederlander and senior Lana Robins rounded out GW's singles play with straight-set victories at the No. 5 position (6-1, 7-5) and No. 2 spot (6-4, 6-2), respectively.
The Colonials return to action on Friday, Feb. 5, when they visit UMBC for a 7 p.m. match.
