GW Gymnastics Cracks Top 10 After First Meet

WASHINGTON - Following its season-opening victory at the Little Boston Invitational on Saturday evening, the George Washington gymnastics team is currently tied for seventh in the nation based on its overall team score of 196.175.
Among the teams ranked in the top 10 are five of the six teams from the 2015 NCAA Championship Super Six. LSU and Michigan are tied at No. 1 with a score of 196.95, Florida is third at 196.825, while Oklahoma (196.725) and UCLA (196.55) round out the top five. Alabama sits at No. 6 (196.30) and the Colonials are tied for seventh with Auburn and Utah. Arizona rounds out the top 10 with 195.70.
As a team, GW is tied for second in the nation with an uneven bars score of 49.175. Additionally, the Colonials are tied for fifth on balance beam (49.175), tied for 15th on vault (48.95) and are ranked 19th on floor exercise (48.875).
On an individual level, sophomore Jillian Winstanley is tied for No. 1 in the nation on vault after her routine of 9.925 on Saturday night. Teammate and 2015 National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches vault All-American Cami Drouin-Allaire is tied for fifth after hitting her routine for 9.90.
Winstanley is also tied for fourth on uneven bars after scoring 9.90 en route to her all-around title on Saturday night.
In the all-around rankings, Winstanley sits in a tie for seventh (39.35) while Drouin-Allaire is tied for 10th place (39.30).
Junior Alex DeMoura and sophomore Sara Mermelstein also share a national ranking of No. 9 on balance beam after both gymnasts hit for 9.875.
The Colonials will open their 2015 home schedule at the ninth annual Lindsey Ferris Invitational on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. at the Charles E. Smith Center.
