GW Women's Tennis Completes Day 1 of UVa Invite

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - The George Washington women's tennis squad completed the first day of the UVa Invitational on Friday at the Cavaliers' Boar's Head Sports Club. Play was moved indoors due to inclement weather.
In singles play, rookies Victoria Kogan and Diana Kussainova competed in the White Flight. Kussainova defeated Miami (Ohio)'s Nelli Ponomareva in straight sets before handily triumphing over Old Dominion's Marijana Novakovic, 6-2, 6-1, to reach Saturday's flight semifinals against Utah's Taylor Calton. Kogan fell to Utah's Alexia Petrovic in a three-set battle, 6-0, 4-6, 7-5, in the flight quarterfinals after receiving a first-round bye. Kogan will take on Marshall's Marja Bogicevic on Saturday in the flight's fifth-place bracket.
Sophomore Teodora Radosavljevic opened her day with a 7-5, 6-4 victory over Virginia's Cassie Mercer, but fell to Arkansas' Shannon Hudson, 6-3, 6-0, in the Orange Flight quarterfinals. Radosavljevic will face Old Dominion's Natalia Vlasova in the fifth-place bracket on Saturday.
In Blue Flight action, sophomore Marie-Louise Decamps dropped a three-set decision to Utah's Margo Pletcher, 7-6, 4-6, 7-5, before defeating Mia Jurasic of Arkansas, 2-6, 6-3, 6-3, to advance to a consolation semifinal matchup against Maryland's Kristina Hovsepyan on Saturday.
In doubles action, the pair of Radosavljevic and Decamps defeated Marshall's duo of Marija Bogicevic and Anne Gulsrud, 8-5. Kussainova partnered with classmate Kogan, but fell to Miami (Ohio)'s Anzhelika Shapovalova and Hannah Shteyn, 8-2. Both pairs will continue to play in the White Doubles Round-Robin Flight on Saturday.
