GW Men's Soccer Concludes Home Stand on Friday

WASHINGTON -- The George Washington men's soccer team concludes its three-game home stand on Friday afternoon when it hosts Robert Morris. Kickoff from the GW Soccer Field on the Mount Vernon Campus is slated for 3 p.m.
GW (2-5-0) was edged by 2014 College Cup participant UMBC, 3-2, on Tuesday afternoon. The Colonials took an early 2-0 lead, but the Retrievers tallied three unanswered goals. Junior Tobi Adewole recorded a goal and an assist, and senior Eddie Painter also scored for GW.
Junior Garrett Heine ranks third in the Atlantic 10 with eight points and 1.14 points per game and fourth with three goals (0.43 gpg). He has scored the game-winner in both of GW's victories which is tied for the league lead. In addition, freshman goalkeeper Thor Arne Höfs ranks second in the conference and 13th in the nation with 5.20 saves per contest.
Ranked eighth in the Northeast region, Robert Morris (4-4-0) has dropped two in a row, including a 1-0 double-overtime loss to Pittsburgh on Tuesday. Goalkeeper Brenden Alfery made a career-high 11 saves against the Panthers. Two-time Northeast Conference Player of the Year Neco Brett leads the NEC and ranks in the top 10 nationally in goals (7), goals per game (0.88), points (16) and points per game (2.0). He has scored the game-winner in three of RMU's four wins. Alfery has played every minute between the pipes for Robert Morris, boasting a 1.31 goals-against average and .807 save percentage while ranking fifth in the NCAA with 5.75 saves per contest.
Friday's contest is the sixth all-time meeting between the two Colonials squads, including the third year in a row, and RMU holds a 3-2-0 edge following last season's victory in Moon Township, Pennsylvania.
