WASHINGTON - The George Washington women's soccer squad returns home on Thursday for the first of two consecutive home games as Liberty visits the GW Soccer Field on the Mount Vernon Campus for a 3 p.m. contest. Delaware State will visit the District on Sunday for a 1 p.m. bout on GW's Kid's Day.
The Colonials (2-4-0) look to snap a three-game skid against Liberty (2-4-1) on Thursday after falling to Georgetown and Delaware last week.
Junior MacKenzie Cowley netted her team-best fourth goal of the season on Sept. 10 at Georgetown and ranks second in the Atlantic 10 Conference in goals per game (0.80). Sophomore Brittany Cooper found the back of the net for the first time this season on Sunday at Delaware and has one assist to put her second on the squad with three points.
Between the posts, redshirt-sophomore Miranda Horn has logged the majority of minutes for the Colonials, making 20 saves while combining with senior Ellen Conway for a pair of shutouts.
Liberty enters the match after downing VCU on Sunday in overtime on Madison Kauzlarich's golden goal - her first score of the season. Brittany Aanderud leads the Flames with five points (2g, 1a), while Jennifer Knoebel and Jaime Bouffaard each have three (1g, 1a).
Holly Van Noord has served in goal for every minute of Liberty's season, logging 52 saves and three shutouts while allowing eight goals.
Delaware State (2-5-1) fell to American University, 1-0, on Tuesday and will take on UMBC on Friday evening at home before visiting the District on Sunday. Taylor Love leads Delaware State with two goals on the season, while a trio of Hornets have chipped in a score to round out the offense.
Michele Lammers has served as Delaware State's primary keeper and has posted 41 saves in eight contests.
The Colonials are 1-2-0 all-time against Liberty, most recently defeating the Flames, 1-0, on Cowley's gamewinner a year ago. GW defeated Delaware State, 2-0, in 2014 and is a perfect 3-0-0 against the Hornets all-time, while leading in scoring, 11-0.
GW will host a free one-hour clinic for children aged 12 and under on the field after Sunday's game in honor of Kid's Day.
