GW Women's Tennis Completes Opening Weekend

The George Washington women's tennis team wrapped its opening weekend of play on Sunday at the Elon and Saint Joseph's Invitationals. Sophomore Teodora Radosavljevic and freshman Diana Kussainova earned titles in their respective singles flights at the Elon Invitational.
At Elon, Radosavljevic won the Maroon Flight singles crown after downing Wake Forest's blue chip freshman Joanna Zalewski, 6-4, 6-1, - Zalewski entered the fall season as TennisRecruiting.net's 33rd-ranked recruit out of the 2015 high school graduating class. Kussainova took home her first collegiate tournament title, triumphing over Elon's Erica Brashi, 6-0, 5-7, 6-4, in the Phoenix Flight singles final.
In Maroon Flight singles action, sophomore Marie-Louise Decamps defeated UNC-Greensboro's Soumeya Anane in the consolation semifinals, 3-6, 7-5, 10-6. Junior Taylor Nederlander fell, 6-1, 6-2, to Emory's Taylor Cosme in the consolation semifinals of the Acorn Flight. Consolation finals were not played due to weather-related time restrictions.
In doubles action, the team of Radosavljevic and Decamps defeated UNCG's Soumeya Anane and Sarah Swiderski, 8-6, to take seventh place in the Maroon Flight. The pair of Nederlander and Kussainova fell to Emory's Bridget Harding and Katarina Su, 8-2, in the third-place match of the Phoenix Flight.
At the Saint Joseph's Invitational, junior Allison Hansen defeated Norfolk State's Marta Gomar in come-from-behind fashion, 4-6, 6-3, 10-5, to reach the Flight 3 finals. Hansen then fell to Norfolk State's Andrea Macchiavello, 6-2, 6-2.
Senior Egle Jakuciunaite won the Flight 4 singles consolation title after defeating Saint Joseph's Maddie Graziani, 7-5, 6-4, in the semifinals and Bucknell's Allie Lane, 6-4, 6-1, in the finals. Jakuciunaite's Flight 2 consolation doubles final with partner Ana Popovic of Norfolk State was not played due to time restrictions.
Freshman Victoria Kogan fell to Saint Joseph's Maureen Devlin, 6-4, 7-5, in the Flight 2 semifinals on Sunday.
The Colonials return to the courts on Sept. 19 as they compete at the Christopher Newport Invitational.
