2015-16 GW Golf Schedule
WASHINGTON -- The George Washington golf team will play in six tournaments as part of its Fall 2015 schedule, third-year head coach Chuck Scheinost announced on Thursday.
"I'm very excited for our fall schedule," said Coach Scheinost. "I believe it provides us with a great mixture of events we can contend in and ones that will push us with some strong competition. We will face teams from the Big 10, Big 12, Pac-12, ACC and Conference USA, among others."
The Colonials will open the fall season at the Rutgers University Invitational from Sept. 11-12 at the Rutgers University Course before heading west for the sixth annual Mark Simpson-CU Invitational, Sept. 28-29 at the Colorado National Golf Club in Erie, Colorado. At the same time, several individual golfers will compete at the George Mason Invitational (Sept. 27-28) in the familiar surroundings of Laurel Hill Golf Course in Lorton, Virginia, the Colonials' former home course which often still serves as a practice and qualifying venue for the team.
A week later, GW will make its first of two trips to the Carolinas for the N.C. State Wolfpack Invitational at the Lonnie Poole Golf Course in Raleigh, North Carolina, on Oct. 5-6. After a brief break, the Colonials will travel to Texas for UTEP's Price's "Give 'Em 5" Invitational at the Butterfield Trail Golf Club in El Paso, Oct. 23-25.
The Colonials then conclude their fall season at the Western Carolina Hummingbird Intercollegiate at the Country Club of Sapphire Valley in Cashiers, South Carolina, from Nov. 1-2.
GW opens the spring season at the inaugural Atlantic 10 Match Play Championship at Weston Hills Country Club in Weston, Florida, Feb. 22-23, where the team will face seven of its A-10 opponents in a match play format. Two weeks later, the Colonials will head to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, to compete in Appalachian State's Bash at the Beach for the third year in a row. The tournament takes place March 7-8 at the Surf Golf and Beach Club.
The Buff and Blue will spend Spring Break out west at the Desert Shootout at Palm Valley Golf Course is Goodyear, Arizona, March 18-19, and will return to the West Coast a month later to conclude the regular season at UC Davis' El Mercero Classic from April 15-17 at El Mercero Golf Club in Davis, California.
The 2016 Atlantic 10 Championship will return to the Orlando area for the second year in a row from April 29-May 1 at Grand Cyprus Golf Resort. The Colonials, with a roster of seven returners and two newcomers, will look to improve upon their ninth-place showing in 2015.
