WASHINGTON -- Redshirt sophomore Christian Cichan will join the George Washington golf team this fall after transferring from Purdue, head coach Chuck Scheinost announced on Monday.
Cichan was a member of Purdue's golf team for two seasons from 2013-15 where he was named Academic All-Big Ten in 2015 and was a member of the Athletic Director's Honor Roll all four semesters.
Prior to joining the Boilermakers, he was a three-time all-state and all-conference honoree at Providence Day High School in Charlotte, North Carolina. He finished second at the North Carolina state meet as a senior and fourth as a sophomore, and he led the state in scoring average as a junior (34.2 per nine holes). In addition, he led the Chargers to a state title his sophomore year.
Cichan finished second at the AJGA Golf Pride Junior Classic and narrowly missed qualifying by two strokes for the PGA's Wells Fargo Championship after shooting rounds of 66-67 in the qualifier.
"We're excited to have Christian join our program," said Coach Scheinost. "I think he will be a great fit both on the course and in the classroom for GW. He's had great success on the course in his past and we're excited to have him raise his game to another level here at GW."
Cichan will join freshman Logan Lowe as newcomers set to join seven returning letterwinners for Coach Scheinosts' third year at the helm of the Colonials' program in 2015-16.
