As the George Washington women's basketball team's two incoming freshmen get ready to begin their collegiate careers, here's a look at their final scholastic seasons.
Mei-Lyn Bautista, a 5-6 point guard from White Stone, New York, was named All-Long Island by Newsday for the third year in a row after averaging 16 points, 12 assists and seven steals for Saint Mary's High School. Bautista led her team to its second straight Nassau Suffolk Catholic High School Girls Athletic Association title and to the state semifinals, and she was also named MVP of the Burbs vs. Boros all-star game.
Kelsi Mahoney, a 6-1 forward from Concord, North Carolina, earned both conference and county Player of the Year honors after averaging 15.5 points, 9.1 rebounds, 2.6 blocks and 2.2 steals per game at Jay M. Robinson High School last season. The three-time team co-captain was also named team MVP and earned spots on the All-District first team and Division 4A All-State squad. Mahoney, who was a McDonald's All-America nominee, finished her scholastic career as Jay M. Robinson's second-leading all-time scorer with 1,317 points to go with 985 rebounds and 250 blocks.
Bautista and Mahoney make up the top recruiting class in the Atlantic 10 according to All-Star Girls Report, which ranks the duo No. 70 in the nation.
