WASHINGTON - George Washington gymnastics junior Taylor Redmond has been voted by her teammates to serve as team captain for the 2015-16 academic year, head coach Margie Foster-Cunningham announced.
Redmond, a rising senior and native of Nanuet, New York, has appeared in 26 meets during her three seasons at GW. She is a two-time selection to the East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) All-Academic Team.
She has also played a key role in the program's community service efforts. The gymnastics team recently won the Raise High Our Community Team Award at the Fourth Annual Georgey Awards after totaling over 800 hours of service in 2014-15.
Redmond appeared in all 14 meets on uneven bars this season and scored a career-high 9.75 on March 15. She also competed in eight meets on balance beam.
GW will be looking to defend its 2015 EAGL Championship and return to NCAA Regionals for the second straight season in 2016. The Colonials have not appeared in two consecutive NCAA Regional meets since the 2001 and 2002 seasons.
