WASHINGTON - The George Washington softball squad wraps its non-conference schedule on Tuesday as local rival Georgetown visits the GW Softball Field on the Mount Vernon Campus.
The Colonials (21-20, 4-11 A-10) have won five of their last seven games at home, most recently defeating Coppin State, 5-0, on April 15. The Hoyas (13-27) have fallen in 12 of their last 13 contests.
Junior Carlee Gray leads all Colonials with a .354 average while senior Victoria Valos claims a team-best 36 RBIs, .589 slugging percentage and .455 on-base percentage.
Valos, already the program-leader in career runs scored, doubles, home runs, RBIs, extra-base hits, total bases and at-bats, is just one hit away from the 200 career mark, a plateau met only once before - by Olympic bobsledder Elana Meyers Taylor ('07) who wrapped her Hall of Fame career with 202.
Freshman hurler Sarah Costlow (13-16) is just one victory away from becoming GW's winningest rookie in program history, while sophomore Paige Kovalsky (8-2) has held opponents to a team-best .242 average.
Georgetown's Hannah Ramsey leads the Hoyas at the plate with a .311 average, while Sophia Gargicevich-Almeida has tallied a team-best 21 RBIs this spring.
In the circle, Megan Hyson has shouldered the majority of Georgetown's innings (142.2), accumulating a 10-14 record while striking out 145 batters.
The Colonials trail in the all-time series, 5-3, with the Hoyas taking the last two meetings. A year ago, Valos broke the program's career home runs record against Georgetown with a three-run blast, but GW was edged, 5-4.
Tuesday's first pitch is slated for 3 p.m. at the GW Softball Field.
