WASHINGTON - By virtue of its national ranking, the No. 31-ranked George Washington gymnastics team was selected to compete as the No. 6 seed at the NCAA Auburn Regional Championship, which will be hosted by Auburn University at Auburn Arena on Saturday, April 4, at 7:00 p.m. ET.
GW (23-3-1) won its first-ever East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) Championship on Sunday afternoon at SECU Arena in Towson, Maryland.
The Colonials return to NCAA Regionals for the 11th time in program history - first since 2002 - under 30th-year Head Coach Margie Foster-Cunningham.
The sixth-seeded Colonials will compete against No. 5 Alabama (No. 1 seed), No. 8 Auburn (No. 2), No. 17 Minnesota (No. 3), Iowa (No. 4) and Maryland (No. 5).
The top two teams and top two all-around competitors (who are not on an advancing team) from each of the six NCAA Regional sites will advance to the NCAA Women's Gymnastics Championships, April 17-19, at the Fort Worth Convention Center Arena in Fort Worth, Texas.
Additionally, the event winners at each regional will advance to the national championship (in that event only) if they are not part of a qualifying team or an all-around qualifier.
GW's best finish at an NCAA Regional was 2001 when it finished in 4th place out of six teams at the Southeast Regional. The Colonials scored 194.675, their best-ever postseason team score.
