GW Gymnastics Set for Sunday's EAGL Championship

WASHINGTON - The George Washington gymnastics team will compete at the East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) Championship meet on Sunday afternoon at 12:00 p.m. at Towson University's SECU Center.
GW concluded the regular-season with an overall record of 18-2-1 and a national ranking of No. 34 in the country with a regional-qualifying score (RQS) of 195.325. The top 36 teams in the nation at the conclusion of this weekend's competitions will advance to the NCAA Regionals at one of six pre-determined campus locations.
The Colonials had seven student-athletes recognized on All-EAGL teams earlier this week, led by freshman Jillian Winstanley's four selections. The reigning EAGL Gymnast of the Week was named First Team All-EAGL on vault, uneven bars, balance beam and all-around. The Arlington, Massachusetts, native currently leads the EAGL in the all-around with a RQS of 39.265 and ranks second second on vault (9.890), fourth on balance beam (9.840) and fifth on uneven bars (9.830).
Freshman Cami Drouin-Allaire was named First Team All-EAGL on vault, floor exercise and all-around. She enters the weekend leading the EAGL on vault with a RQS of 9.920 while ranking third in the all-around (39.195).
Also garnering All-EAGL honors for the Colonials were sophomore Chelsea Raineri (First Team, vault and floor exercise), senior Elena Corcoran (First Team, vault), freshman Liz Pfeiler (First Team, balance beam), freshman Sara Mermelstein (Second Team, balance beam) and sophomore Alex DeMoura (Second Team, vault, floor exercise and all-around).
The Colonials have set four team records this season with best-ever marks on vault (49.50 on March 15), floor exercise (49.45 on March 15) and overall team score (196.875 on March 15). GW started the season with 11 consecutive victories, the best start to a season in program history.
Last season the Colonials earned two event titles and finished in fifth place overall at the 2014 EAGL Championship at the Whittemore Center in Durham, New Hampshire. Raineri was named co-champion on vault and then-seniors Betsy Zander, Brittany Doran and Kiera Kenney earned a share of the uneven bars title, to mark the first-ever event titles at an EAGL Championship for GW.
GW's best finish at the EAGL Championship was fourth place at the 2013 installment at Carmichael Arena in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. The Colonials' notched the program's best-ever EAGL Championship meet score with 194.750.
