
GW Gymnastics Defeats Towson in Penultimate Regular-Season Meet

TOWSON, Md. - The George Washington gymnastics team defeated Towson, 195.125-194.700 in the penultimate meet of the regular season on Friday night at SECU Arena.
GW posted team totals of 48.925 on vault, 48.55 on uneven bars, 48.60 on balance beam and 49.05 on floor exercise.
Freshman Jillian Winstanley won the all-around competition by scoring a season-high 39.375, including an event title on balance beam with a season-high mark of 9.875. She added 9.875 on vault (T-3rd), 9.825 on uneven bars (2nd) and 9.80 on floor exercise (4th).
Both senior Elena Corcoran and freshman Cami Drouin-Allaire posted a score of 9.925 on vault, tied for third-best in program history, to share the event title. The score marked the third time this season Drouin-Allaire has hit that mark or better and the routine represents a new career-high mark for Corcoran.
Drouin-Allaire finished second in the all-around with a season-high score of 39.30. In addition to her vault title, she added scores of 9.725 on uneven bars (6th), 9.80 on balance beam (T-2nd) and 9.85 on floor exercise (2nd).
Sophomore Chelsea Raineri, who entered the weekend as the top floor exercise performer in the East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL), won the event title for the second consecutive week with a score of 9.875.
Freshman Sara Mermelstein tied for second place on balance beam with a score of 9.80 while adding 9.75 on floor exercise (7th) and 9.60 on vault (10th).
GW and Towson will meet again in the regular-season finale for both teams on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. at the Charles E. Smith Center.
