JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The George Washington women's tennis team fell to South Alabama, 6-1, on Thursday at the University of North Florida Tennis Complex. The Colonials will wrap up spring break play with a pair of matches over the weekend.
GW (4-6) could not convert the doubles point against an undefeated Jaguars (9-0) squad, dropping matches at the Nos. 2 and 3 slots to yield an early lead. Junior Lana Robins and freshman Teodora Radosljevic battled at the No. 1 spot and left the match knotted at 6-6 when play was abandoned.
In singles action, sophomore Taylor Nederlander secured GW's point with a hard-fought 6-3, 5-7, 11-9 win at the No. 6 slot on the ladder. Radosavljevic and Robins took their South Alabama opponents to three sets in first- and second-flight matches, but could not convert the victories.
The Colonials will finish spring break play over the weekend as they travel with the men's team to Atlantic 10 rival Davidson (6-4) on Saturday before heading to Elon (5-5) on Sunday.
Davidson holds a 1-1 A-10 record so far this spring, defeating George Mason and falling to Richmond last weekend. Freshman Ava Todd carries a nine-match win streak in solo action, having lost only once in 2015. Davidson will be the first A-10 opponent for the Colonials this season.
Elon most recently saw a four-match win streak snapped on March 7 in a loss to Liberty. The Phoenix will face UNC-Wilmington on Thursday before hosting GW.
First serve against Davidson is slated for 10 a.m. at the Covington Tennis Courts, while Sunday's bout will begin at 1 p.m. at Elon's Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.
